Friends and Neighbors:

The Forest Preserve District of Cook County Board of Commissioners Real Estate Committee Meeting was held today, Oct. 6, Video Access.  The Proposed Intergovernmental Agreement for the Village of Palos Park to annex and provide municipal water and sewer service to certain Forest Preserve property located in unincorporated Cook County was on the agenda.  Although many elected officials, taxing body representatives, Village employees and residents spoke against this annexation during the meeting, the annexation item was passed with 13 ayes, 2 nays, 1 present, and 1 absent.  Those board members in favor of the agenda item chose only to base their decision on the forest preserve obtaining water from Palos Park, and nothing more.  We thank those that acknowledged there was more to this item than simply supplying the district with water, and that the district should not be involved in land matters between municipalities.

On behalf of the Village Board of Trustees, I want to thank the residents of Lemont for all of your calls, letters and emails to the Cook County Commissioners and the showing of support at the Cook County Forest Preserve District Meetings. Your support throughout the Palos Park land grab issue is greatly appreciated.

Although we are disappointed on the outcome of today's vote, our opinion has not changed. The properties in question, when they are ready to be developed, should be developed within the Village of Lemont.

The Board and I will explore all of the options we have available to us, and will continue to fight for local control with regard to these properties. We will update the community in the near future of our next steps with regard to this matter.

Thank you again for all of your support.
