Village Administrator's Report

Welcome to the November 2016 addition of the monthly Administrator’s Report. The month of October was full of community events including the Lemontster Day Halloween series. Thanks to all of the volunteers that made the events possible and welcomed so many families to Lemont for the festivities. CITGO Lemont Refinery hosted another environmental restoration day in the Heritage Quarry Recreation Area. Hundreds of volunteers from Lemont High School and the community participated in the event. A special thanks goes out to CITGO, the Conservation Foundation, Lemont High School and all of the volunteers for making the event a huge success! Another restoration day is planned for April of 2017.

Highlights from the November meetings:

  • The Police Pension Board president presented the pension fund’s annual municipal compliance and actuary report. The Village Board approved the fully funding of its annual actuarial required contribution to the fund.
  • Our auditing firm, Baker Tilly, presented the 2015-2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. The presentation once again noted no material weaknesses and the Village expects to apply for and receive the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting again this year.
  • The public hearing date for the proposed new tax increment finance (TIF) district for Archer and Main Street was approved for December 12. Consisting primarily of Village owned property at the corner of Route 83 and Main, the new TIF is expected to increase the marketability of the site. Information will be made available on our website prior to the hearing.
  • A resolution was approved authorizing the purchase of in car video systems for Police Department squad cars to upgrade them to the newest technologies for functionality and compliance purposes.
  • At the October Committee of the Whole, discussion took place regarding the responses to the Village’s request for proposals for investment services,  proposed property tax levy estimates and associated budget calendar, a proposed boundary line agreement extension with the City of Lockport, and a discussion on the administration of Village and community special events. These items will be presented again at future meeting for further discussion and/or final action.

Marketing Initiatives

With our branding and visual identity project completed, we have begun promoting our community brand identity through marketing efforts in support of our strategic plan. The focus of our marketing initiatives includes attracting visitors and businesses to the community, as well as informing our residents of our history and attractions. We kicked off our ad campaign in the October issue of West Suburban Living Magazine which also featured an article on Lemont with an arrangement of scenic photos and items of interest that reside in our town. This is a great article to share with friends and visitors http://lemont.il.us/DocumentCenter/View/2447. The photo above is our most recent ad in the Nov/Dec issue of Suburban Family Magazine which is geared toward family recreation and activities.

Our Facebook posts have increased with an array of interesting topics to engage our citizens and visitors, so be sure to LIKE us and visit often, https://www.facebook.com/villageoflemont/.
