A River Thru History – The DesPlaines Valley Rendezvous is a "living history" re-enactment of an annual Voyageur Rendezvous that might have occurred along the DesPlaines River prior to 1848. Living history seeks to incorporate historical tools, activities and dress in order to give observers and participants a sense of stepping back in time. The Rendezvous participants are in historically accurate clothing and shelters. You will be immersed in a rich discussion of history, social customs, and the skills and items that were necessary to survive on the frontier. The time period we encompass with the Rendezvous is from the period of early exploration through the fur-trade era.
This is the event's 29th year, and you may know the event by its former name, the "I&M Canal Rendezvous." This Rendezvous is one of the most popular events in the Heritage Corridor and one of the premier events of its type in the Midwest. Bring out your family and enjoy!
Free parking is available at UPS off 79th St, east of Willow Springs Rd., to pay at the admission gate and take a shuttle bus into the woods. For more information, visit www.ariverthruhistory.com.
