On August 23, 2010 the Village Board approved an ordinance requiring property owners to register vacant properties with the Village of Lemont. Property inspections are required prior to occupancy for homes which have been vacant for three months or longer. The purpose of the ordinance is to protect the public's health, safety and welfare by:

• Establishing a program for identification, registration, and maintenance of buildings which are (or become) vacant on and after the effective date of the ordinance
• Determine the responsibilities of the owners of record of vacant buildings.
• Provide for administration, enforcement (including the abatement of public nuisances), and imposition of penalties.
