The Village of Lemont's parkway trees are one of the Village's greatest assets aesthetically. To preserve the beauty and value of the parkways, sometimes trees need to be removed. Some of the causes for a tree to be removed could be structural weakness, infectious disease, insect infestation or death. The Village will remove parkway trees only if the tree is dead, dying, or damaged from a storm emergency. The homeowner is responsible to maintain all parkway trees adjacent to their property. This includes regular trimming of the trees. Residents should call Public Works Department if they have any tree questions or concerns.

Storm Damage & Debris

In the event of heavy storm damage, as determined by the Public Works Director, the Village will implement an emergency limb and debris pickup. For more information, contact the Public Works Department at 630-257-2532.

Branches and debris gathered from private property is the responsibility of the homeowner. Residents can dispose of tree debris through the Village Yard Waste Collection Program. The Village contracts with Waste Management to handle its waste collection. You can contact Waste Management at 800-796-9696.

Insect and Diseases - Emerald Ash Borer

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive beetle native to Asia that was first discovered in Michigan near Detroit in the summer of 2002. The adult beetle nibbles on Ash foliage, but causes little damage. The larvae (the immature stage) feed on the inner bark of the Ash trees, disrupting the trees ability to transport water and nutrients, ultimately killing the tree.

The Public Works Department has been working with Urban Forest Management and has conducted an orientation session with Public Works personnel on identifying as Ash tree that may be infected. The Public Works Department has completed an inventory of all Ash trees on public parkways on village owned properties. The inventory includes location, condition and approximate size. This data will be used to map potential infestations, pinpoint areas for further treatment and manage treatment and removal of infested or suspect trees.
