Fraud Alert

The Lemont Police would like to inform the public of an extensive criminal scheme involving the use of stolen personal identifying information, to fraudulently claim unemployment insurance benefits.  We have received well over 300 reports of identity theft since September 2020, and many more are expected due to this occurring not only in the State of Illinois, but throughout the country.  Victims should report their incidents to the Illinois Department of Employment Services Office (IDES) at www.ides.illinois.gov.  If you still wish to file a report with the Lemont Police Dept, they will document your incident and provide you with a report number.  The U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Department of Labor/Office of the Inspector General have jurisdiction on these matters and are actively investigating.  To report this or any other crime with the Lemont Police, please dial 9-1-1.
