Can I apply for a permit and do the work myself?

Yes, if you (the homeowner) have lived in the residence for longer than six months and sign a homeowners agreement that you will be performing the work yourself without a contractor. If you have not lived at the residence for longer than six months, then you must register as a contractor with the Village of Lemont or hire a contractor to perform the work.

Do I need a building permit?

Most projects do require a building permit to ensure compliance with building codes and zoning regulations. Some minor projects such as painting and basic maintenance may not require permits. If there is any question or doubt, please contact the Building Department at 630-257-1580.

How do I register as a contractor with the Village of Lemont?

You must complete the Contractor License Application form and include the license fee of $100.00. You must also provide liability insurance that lists the Village of Lemont as Additional Insured and workman's compensation.
